18th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey

The latest research findings from TCRS' 2017 surveys of American workers and employers.

The Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey explores attitudes about retirement and retirement readiness among American workers. Wishful Thinking or Within Reach? Three Generations Prepare for “Retirement” highlights differences and similarities among Baby Boomers, Generation X and Millennials. Here and Now: How Women Can Take Control of Their Retirement looks at the retirement preparations of women and how they often lag those of men, while also providing helpful recommendations to help women prepare for a financial secure retirement. The Compendium of Findings is a robust report of more than 375 pages presenting results for the last five years on 60 key measures, as well as demographic breakouts for 40 key measures by employer size, generation, gender, household income, level of education, and race/ethnicity.

Striking Similarities and Disconcerting Disconnects: Employers, Workers, and Retirement Security, presents finding from TCRS' survey of 1,825 employers of for-profit companies and explores how employers are helping their employees prepare for retirement. The study also provides context by comparing the employer survey findings with TCRS’ survey of workers, and offers employer results by company size.

A Retirement Security Retrospective: 2007 Versus 2017 examines findings from TCRS' annual survey of workers and employers to compare pre-Great Recession retirement security to 2017. It also includes recommendations for workers, employers and policymakers.

The study is one of the largest and longest-running of its kind, with more than 6,000 workers respondents and 1,800 employers in 2017. It was conducted by The Harris Poll, an independent research company. The robust, nationally representative samples enable TCRS to explore many different demographic segments among workers and by company size among employers.
